The Work of the Hand
The work is a homage to the work of the hand represented by the skilled use of hand tools. The images are painted on wooden blocks that are mounted so that they protrude from the wall at right angles. Adjacent metal plates on the wall reflect blurred images. The workshop settings are dated, the skills now in danger of extinction, the boys gone.
In contrast to the gradual decline in the use of hand tools, the action of the hammer has come to an abrupt halt with the breaking off of its head.
